Odell Beckham Jr. Explains Why He Hasn’t Signed a New Los Angeles Rams Deal

Beckham Jr. proved last season that he is a big-game player; his numbers in the playoffs and onwards were stellar.

It would be fair to say that Odell Beckham Jr. made a big impact in a relatively short amount of time at the Los Angeles Rams, but it’s unclear whether the wide receiver will be retained by the SoFi Stadium team.

Beckham Jr. was instrumental in helping to take the Rams to their first Super Bowl win since 1999 and then ran in a touchdown to help Sean McVay’s team past the Cincinnati Bengals before the 29-year-old suffered a torn ACL that is likely to keep him out of the game for some time.

The Rams’ success last time out was something of a surprise, and a quick glance at the betting for next season via sidelines.io/nfl/odds suggests that no one expects a repeat with McVay’s side sitting in the fifth position with most sportsbooks.

As for Beckham Jr’s contract situation, currently, he is a free agent, and his injury status is clearly a factor and one that presents something of a stumbling block for both the player and any prospective suitor.

Odell Beckham Jr. has never shied away from the public spotlight, and he took to Twitter to respond to talk over whether he may sign a new deal with the Rams, stating;

“They know where I wanna be, Just can’t play for free!”

This suggests the ball is very much in the Rams’ court.

There are two ways of looking at this situation. On a positive note, from Beckham Jr’s perspective, he represents a hell of an opportunity as a very capable free agent, but on the negative side of things, he’s a player who is months away from returning from injury and could be a liability even when he does return.

Beckham Jr. proved last season that he is a big-game player; his numbers in the playoffs and onwards were stellar, and when it mattered, he delivered the goods for the Los Angeles Rams, and that should count for something.

He made 21 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four postseason games, and it’s worth noting that the surgery that he underwent following his torn ACL also allowed a problematic knee issue to be fixed so he could come back as fresh as a daisy.

McVay has made it clear he’d want Beckham Jr. back, and that may well help to get the deal done, the Rams coach stated on the Rich Eisen Show;

“I really want Odell back on our team. He’s a guy that, in a short amount of time, we were able to develop a really special relationship. I thought he brought a great spark to our team. I thought he played really well. He’s a great teammate. We all know what charisma and a presence he has, but he is truly a great teammate and made so many impactful plays. It was a shame to see him go down in that game, but man, he sure still made an impact with those two catches that he did have and without a doubt want to get Odell back here.”
