From 6-1 in the first seven games to 1-6 in the last seven games! Let’s find out what went wrong for the Philadelphia Eagles

For a few teams, the 2024–24 NFL season began with a bang. Teams like the Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, and San Francisco 49ers had a record of 5-2 until week 7. Similarly, the Philadelphia Eagles had a record of 6-1 and were favorites for the number one seed in the NFC division standings.

But the ending of the tournament was the opposite for them, as they had a record of 1-6 in the last seven games. Moreover, they lost the wild-card round against the Buccaneers and ended the season empty-handed.

The Eagles had a record of 10-1 until week 11 but couldn’t even win the division championship. What exactly went wrong for them? So, we are here to discuss what went wrong for the Eagles as they failed to win a single title this season.

What went wrong for the Philadelphia Eagles?

  1. Last Seven Opponents
  2. Low Confidence

What went wrong for the Philadelphia Eagles?

Following are the top five reasons we believe why the Eagles had a disappointing ending to the 2024–24 season.

1. Last Seven Opponents

The reason why the Eagles had a record of 1-6 in the last seven games was because of their opponents. Obviously, a team wins or loses to their opponents, but the Eagles were kind of playing wild card rounds. But how? These are the teams that the Eagles played in their last seven encounters.

  • Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round (9-32)
  • Giants (10-27)
  • Cardinals (31-35)
  • Giants (33-25) only win
  • Seahawks (17-20)
  • Cowboys (13-33)
  • 49ers (19-42)

The Seahawks, Cowboys, and 49ers have almost sealed their playoff spots and are kind of the top teams in the league. Well, the Eagles lost against them and had three consecutive losses before heading to Week 16. This also brings out our next point, ‘Losing Confidence.’

2. Low in Confidence

As they lost against the top three teams, the team was already low in confidence. Looking at their situation, their opponents took this as an advantage, and both the Giants and Cardinals, who were at the bottom of their respective standings, won against them. Now, the Eagles had only one win in their last six games before entering the wild card round. Again, the Buccaneers took advantage of their opponent’s low confidence and were defeated by 32-9 in the wild-card round.

3. Defensive Failures

In the last seven games, the Eagles conceded 214 points, which averages 30.5 points per game. Out of the 28 quarters, only on four occasions did their opponents fail to score points. This clearly shows how weak their defense was.

4. Offense under pressure

Like their defense, the offense also failed in the last seven games. They only scored 132 points in their seven games, which was nothing against the points they conceded. They averaged 30.5 points per game on defense and just 18.8 on offense. As a result, their offense was under pressure, and couldn’t score many points in the game.

5. Key players failing to deliver

Key players like Jalen Hurt, AJ Brown, and Julio Smith couldn’t perform at the elite level when the team needed them the most. They had some decline in their performances and ended up empty-handed in the 2024–24 season.
