The 22-year-old quarterback CJ Stroud has completely changed the fortunes of the Houston Texans. They have come a long way, from finishing second last in the 2022 season to fighting for the 2024 NFC Championship. If we look back at the start of the season, the Texans were not a championship challenger, but here they are. So, let us look at how a rookie changed the Texans’ fortune.
How CJ Stroud changed the fortunes of the Houston Texans
The Houston Texans had a record of 3-13-1 in the 2022 season and finished second last in the overall standings. Not just the 2022 season, but since 2020, they have had one of the worst records. They won only 11 games in three seasons (2020, 2021, and 2022). Finishing at the bottom of every list was like a tradition.
But everything changed after CJ Stroud joined them.
In week 18 of the 2022 season, the Texans won their last game against the Colts and finished second in the overall rankings. They missed out on the first pick in the 2024 NFL draft and secured the second pick.
Later, in the 2024 NFL draft, they selected CJ Stroud, and he quickly became a star for the franchise. In his NFL debut, he impressed everyone by having 242 passing yards in his tally. Since then, he has averaged over 250 passing yards per game in the 2024 season and helped the team qualify for the wild card rounds.
Currently, he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and has over 4,000 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. Stroud has several best games in the season, but his best came in the playoffs. He had 274 passing yards and three touchdowns, which helped the Texans win 45-15 against the Browns.
