In the past couple of seasons, the Mercedes team is almost out of the championship battle. During the 2022 season, it was Red Bull vs Ferrari, and in the 2024 season, it was just Max Verstappen. This downfall for Mercedes has hurt the most, and they have only won one Grand Prix in two seasons. Well, the 8-time Constructors World Champion team won’t remain quiet for a long time. This is what their team principal, Toto Wolff, said:
“We are completely changing the car.”
Here is what Toto Wolff explained:
“We are changing the concept. We are completely moving away from how we laid out the chassis, the weight distribution, and the airflow. I mean, literally, there is literally every component that has been changed. Because only by doing that do I think we have a chance.”
To be honest, comparing other teams to Red Bull is like climbing a mountain. Red Bull are in a completely different league, and their drivers have dominated the last couple of seasons. On the other hand, Mercedes hasn’t produced a competitive car.
Even their battle for the second spot in the 2024 F1 constructors’ championship went down to the final race. Can Mercedes fight for the championship in 2024? For that, we have to wait for a few months. Till then, let’s take a look at the Mercedes F1 team’s performances in the past couple of seasons.
