Over the past couple of weeks, UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has been busy. Whether it be in the gym or on social media. Earlier, he had announced that he wanted to have at least three fights in 2024. Later, he challenged all the top five UFC lightweight division fighters, and now he wants to fight Justin Gaethje at UFC 299 in Miami.
The UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, said:
“I want to fight Justin Gaethje next at UFC 299 in Miami!”
Here is the full statement:
“I am not interested in rematches against Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan. I have defeated them. The fighter I want to face next is Justin Gaethje at UFC 299 in Miami.”
Islam Makhachev vs. Justin Gaethje would be a massive fight. Gaethje is an American fighter, and he will definitely be on the main event fight card. If Dana White agrees to this fight, it will be a hell of a fight.
Makhachev has defended the lightweight title on two occasions, and both have been against Alexander Volkanovski. He has yet to defend the title against a proper lightweight-division fighter, and Gaethje would be a perfect opponent. Be ready, UFC, because the official announcement of Makhachev vs. Gaethje at UFC 299 in Mami is around the corner. Till then, let’s take a look at both fighters’ stats.
