Alexander Volkanovski is not done with the UFC Lightweight Championship

The UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, had an opportunity to become a double champion. He faced Islam Makhachev not once but twice for the UFC Lightweight Championship. Sadly, he couldn’t beat Makhachev in both fights but has his sights on the championship.

When Volkanovski was asked about his UFC lightweight title desire, here is what he replied.

Alexander Volkanovski said:

“Lightweight’s definitely in the near future.”

Here is the complete statement:

“I’m not expecting a rematch with Islam Makhachev straight away. I am going to go out there, take care of Ilia Topuria, and we will see what’s next. But lightweight is definitely in the near future.”

Will Alexander Volkanovski get another shot at the UFC lightweight title?

Volkanovski is one of the most successful featherweight champions in UFC history. He has remained undefeated in the UFC featherweight division. Moreover, he has defended the UFC featherweight title five times, the second most in the division’s history.

He is all set to defend the title for the sixth time at UFC 298 against Ilia Topuria. If he manages to be undefeated, he might get into the mix of lightweight championships.

But getting a title shot won’t be on the platter. We might see Volkanovski face one of the top five lightweight division fighters. If he wins against them, no one will stop him from getting his hands on the UFC Lightweight Championship.
