Since Sean Strickland won the UFC Middleweight Championship and Adesanya announced his break from the UFC, the middleweight division has struggled to find a title contender. There were no challenges for Strickland until UFC 294. As Chimaev defeated Ngannou, he became one of the top contenders for the UFC Middleweight Championship, whereas Du Plessis was on the line for a match card.
After the announcement by Dana White that both Du Plessis and Chimaev will get the title shot, the champion’s corner has had some moments. Well, recently, in an interview, Sean Strickland mocked both title contenders by saying,
“I’m a million times better than him (du Plessis), and he is a tougher fighter than Chimaev.”
Here is the statement on du Plessis and Chimaev: “He’s so awkward, he’s good. It’s going to be a f*cking war. He’ll be a tougher fighter than Chimaev. But I’m a million times better than him.”
To be honest, things are spicing up now. First, it was Chimaev; as Strickland said, he doesn’t deserve a title shot at the moment, and now it is du Plessis. He just shot an arrow of mockery, which hit both of his future opponents.
Currently, the first fight is going to be between Stickland and du Plessis. If Strickland defends his title successfully, Chimaev is likely to be his next opponent. Or if du Plessis wins the title, the middleweight division is going to be a complete war zone.
