Red Bull Ring in Spielberg- How to get there for the Austrian GP 2022?

Originally built as Österreichring (translation: Austrian Circuit) the Red Bull Ring hosted 18 consecutive races from 1970. It was later renamed as A1-Ring. A1-Ring hosted races till 2003. it was reopened by RBR in 2011.

The Red Bull Ring is located in the city of Spielberg. Spielberg is a city located in the Bezirk Murtal in the state of Styria, Austria. It is occupied by around five thousand inhabitants. Spielberg used to be a market town till 2009 when it officially became a municipality.

By Air

  • The best choice is the Vienna International Airport. It is around 200 kilometres away from the circuit. Vienna is the largest airport in Austria and the hub of Austrian Airlines. It has destinations all over the world.
  • The closest airport to the Red Bull Ring is Graz Airport. Also known as Flughafen Graz (GRZ), The airport is 85km to the circuit. The airport however is very small and serves very less destinations like Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Zurich.
  • The Klagenfurt Airport is located 100kms from the circuit. However, the options are limited. there is no flight from anywhere other than Europe. Even in Europe, the options are very low.

By Rail

  • The closest train station is the Knittelfeld station. The station is just three kilometres from the circuit. The trip from Vienna to Knittelfeld takes around 3 hours.
  • An hourly train service from Graz to Knittelfeld takes around 80 minutes. The journey involves one change in Bruck. However, the bus is more suggested
  • The Leisure ticket Styria (“Freizeit-Ticket”) is a 1-day ticket for the entire province of Styria and is valid either on a Saturday or on a Sunday. It costs EUR 11 per day. Please note, it is only valid in regional trains.

By Road

By Bus

  • Free shuttle buses from Knittelfeld station to the Red Bull Ring operate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at regular intervals.
  • Buses are available from more than 170 locations all over Austria
  • There is no direct bus from Vienna to Spielberg neither from Graz.

By Car

  • The driving time to the racetrack from Vienna, Udine, and Munich, respectively, is about 2 hours, 3 hours, and 4:30 hours.
  • There is a strong network of highways, and only certain stretches require tolls. Just remember to purchase and put a vignette on your windscreen.
  •  If you are staying in Graz, the trip to the circuit should take under 1 hour. There are plenty of free parking spaces next to the circuit
