A rising defender from Southampton FC joined Liverpool in 2018. Several talks about the player were made, as he was considered one of the best defenders in the future. He was signed for a world record transfer fee of ยฃ75 million. Today, that defender is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in the world, and his name is Virgil van Dijk.
Dijk is the backbone of Liverpool FC. His contract with Liverpool will expire in 2025, but his stay with them isn’t confirmed. When he was asked about him being part of Liverpoolโs future, this is what he replied.
Virgil Van Dijk said:
โThat is a big question now. Well, to be honest, I donโt know.โ

โThat is a big question now. Well, to be honest, I donโt know. My contract expires in 18 months, yes. Listen, I donโt know… but the club will have a big job on their hands.โ
โTo replace the manager, the staff is leaving… There are so many things that will change. So the club has a big job on its hands, and I am curious which direction that will go in for Liverpool and all of us involved.โ
โBut when that is announced, then we will see our situation. I canโt say much about it; we wait and see.โ
โHopefully, we have the success that we all dream of and fight for each day, and there will probably be more clarification for what the club wants for the future.โ

Will Liverpool release Virgil van Dijk?
Dijk has been an integral part of Liverpool since 2018. From his first game to the present, he has rarely missed a game for them unless injured. So far, he has made over 250 appearances for the club and has contributed in every possible way.
Moreover, he has been part of every Liverpoolโs successful campaign and has led from the front. Undoubtedly, he is one of the best players on the team, and there are fewer chances of him being released.
But you never know. Because the major coaching staff at Liverpool are set to leave at the end of the season. With new management and new planning, things might even end on the other side.
