Manchester United will return to the Champions League after hammering Chelsea 4-1 Old Trafford. Erik Ten Hag’s men are now unbeaten in Premier League for 17 games at home.
Manchester United needed only a point from it’s remaining two matches to ensure their Champions League qualifications. Erik Ten Hag started with the same 11 that secured victory against Bournemouth last weekend, but Marcus Rashford featured as a key return after Antony was subbed off with an apparent ankle injury. It wasn’t Manchester United’s best display, but The Red Devils got the job done. Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scored for United to officially end Liverpool’s hope of securing a place in Europe’s elite competition.
Manchester United are now third with 72 points, six points clear of fifth placed Liverpool. The Red Devils remain the only club to win the Champions League among the Premier League top-four. Manchester United will play their final game of the Premier League season against 10th placed Fulham, Erik Ten Hag has led Manchester United to Carabao Cup win earlier this season and will be looking for a domestic double when they face their local rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final on June 3. In the Press conference after the match, Manchester United’s manager Erik ten Hag said, “It’s really important [to finish in the top four]. This club belongs in the Champions League and it’s not so easy in the Premier League. It’s a tough competition, strong, with a lot of teams competing for that. And we made it, so we make a good season”, according to the official website of Manchester United.
