Benjamin Pavard to Chelsea: French defender linked to West London outfit

Bayern defender and World Cup winning fullback Benjamin Pavard has been recently linked with a move away from the Bavarians, reportedly to West London club Chelsea. The Frenchman has recently been ousted from the Bayern Munich squad due to poor performances and the preferences to play German defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich in the same role. Sources state that Bayern value the French right-back at £30 million, considering that he still has two years left in his current deal.

Pavard, if signed, will be the fullback replacement for captain Cesar Azpilicueta, who is rumoured to be leaving for Catalunya club FC Barcelona. The Spaniard has made 476 appearances for the Blues, scoring 17 goals.

Chelsea have already been very active in the 2022 summer transfer market, bringing in Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling and Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly to replace Antonio Rudiger, who recently joined European Champions Real Madrid. Chelsea is interested in Sevilla defender Joules Kounde following the departure of Andreas Christiansen to FC Barcelona.

“I don’t ask myself where I’ll end my career,” Pavard told Rothen s’enflamme. “It is dependent on my body. My age is 26 years. I hope to continue playing for a long time. I enjoy watching the Bundesliga. We have no idea what the future holds for me. “I didn’t win the title in France; I need to win there. Why not, if the opportunity arises and I can win in France? I’m willing to try anything.” Pavard then stated that he is content at Bayern and would never consider moving to Borussia Dortmund. According to the Frenchman: “I still have two years left on my contract and hope to win many titles. “At FC Bayern, I’m very happy. If I ever move, it will not be to Dortmund, despite my admiration for their fantastic fans. In Munich, I’m fine. I’m very familiar with Germany; I played in Stuttgart, which was a big family with amazing fans. They helped me grow from a child to a man.”
