Kane Williamson stepped down from Test captaincy on Thursday (December 15) and pacer Tim Southee has been handed the leadership role. Southee has played 346 international matches, led 22 times in T20Is, and will captain the team in the first Test in Karachi. Tom Latham will be his deputy. But Williamson will continue to lead in the ODIs and T20Is.
"Captaining the Black Caps in Test cricket has been an incredibly special honor," the 32-year-old said after stepping down from the role.
"Captaining comes with an increased workload on and off the field and at this stage of my career, I feel the time is right for the decision. After discussions with the NZC, we felt that continuing to captain the white-ball formats was preferable with two World Cups in the next two years," added Williamson.
Williamson, who is considered one of the best modern-day Test batters, received the captaincy reins in 2016 after Brandon McCullum relinquished the role. Considered a classy and humble cricketer, he has achieved a lot of feats as a player as well as a Kiwi skipper. This article will highlight the Kane Williamson Test captaincy records.
