The IPL 2024 season schedule has been announced, and we are only a few days away from non-stop cricket action. All teams have the best cricketers who can turn the match single-handedly. Last year, we witnessed one of the best IPL seasons, with records broken every game. Similarly, things are expected to be record-breaking this season. Before that, let us rank the best opening batters of the IPL 2024 teams.
Ranking the Best Opening Batters of the IPL 2024 Teams

- A Tier (Good): Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings
- B Tier (Average or below): Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad

Ranking the best opening batters of the IPL 2024 teams
S Tier (Best)
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore
- Faf du Plessis ($)
- Virat Kohli
- Rajat Patidar
When talking about the opening pairs, how can we forget the Royal Challengers Bangalore? Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis have been the best opening pair since 2022. Moreover, they did the bulk of the scoring for their team.
2. Rajasthan Royals
- Yashasvi Jaiswal
- Jos Butler ($)
- Sanju Samson
Looking at the current form, we know what Yashasvi Jaiswal can do. Also, with the flashbacks of Buttler’s 2022 season, we know they are dangerous. They can undoubtedly change games single-handedly.
3. Lucknow Super Giants
- Devdutt Padikkal
- KL Rahul
- Quinton de Kock ($)
- Kyle Mayers ($)
Last season, the Lucknow Super Giants were in deep trouble. The reason was benching an in-form opening batter. Mayers and de Kock were phenomenal last season with Kl Rahul. Now, with the addition of Padikkal, they have multiple opening batter combinations.

A Tier (Good)
1. Mumbai Indians
- Rohit Sharma
- Ishan Kishan
- Suryakumar Yadav
- Dewald Brevis ($)
You might be surprised to see Mumbai Indians on the ‘A’ and not ‘S’ tier. The reason was their consistency. Sometimes, both contributed and had a great partnership. But on a few occasions, they lost their wicket in the powerplay itself.
2. Chennai Super Kings
- Ruturaj Gaikwad
- Ajinkya Rahane
- Rachin Ravindra ($)
With the absence of Devon Conwey, the Chennai Super Kings opening option looks dizzy. Rachin Ravindra can partner Ruturaj Gaikwad, but his numbers in the T20 aren’t impressive. Similarly, if Ajinkya Rahane opens with Gaikwad, can he recreate the same magic?
3. Gujarat Titans
- Kane Williamson ($)
- Shubman Gill
- Sai Sudharsan
- Matthew Wade ($)
- Wriddhiman Saha
It might be a surprise for you to see the two-time finalist opening pair at the ‘A’ tier despite performing impressively. Shubman Gill has been the highest run scorer since 2022. But Saha has been inconsistent throughout the season.
4. Punjab Kings
- Shikar Dhawan
- Jonny Bairstow ($)
- Prabhsimran Singh
- Atharva Taide
Last season, the Punjab Kings openers impressed everyone with their partnerships. But the reason they are here is because of their inconsistency. Sometimes, both contributed and had a great partnership. But on a few occasions, they lost their wicket in the powerplay itself.

B Tier (Average)
1. Delhi Capitals
- David Warner ($)
- Prithvi Shaw
- Shai Hope ($)
Shaw and Warner had an incredible 2022 season. But the last season wasn’t impressive. They regularly lost their wickets in the powerplay. Moreover, they had one of the worst averages as openers the previous season.
2. Kolkata Knight Riders
- Jason Roy ($)
- R. Gurbaz ($)
- Sunil Narine ($)
- Venkatesh Iyer
Watching Kolkata Knight Riders here might be a big surprise for you. But their opening pair was one of their weakest links last season. Their openers rarely had big partnerships and couldn’t put up runs at the start.
3. Sunrisers Hyderabad
- Travis Head ($)
- Rahul Tripathi
- Mayank Agarwal
- Abhishek Sharma
Just like Kolkata, Hyderabad also faced problems with their opening pair. They couldn’t put big runs on the board at the start and rarely had 50+ run partnerships.
