Novak Djokovic has been denied entry into the US due to his vaccination status against Covid-19. The prevalent vaccine mandate has stopped foreigners who haven’t taken shots, from entering the country. But the ban is expected to lift in May this year.
Owing to the strict rules, the Serb couldn’t grant special permission to play in the recently-concluded Indian Wells as well as in the ongoing Miami Open Masters. Because of missing the first ATP 1000 of the season, he lost his No. 1 spot to Spain’s 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz when the latter won the BNP Paribas trophy by beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final.
In a recent interview, the 35-year-old Djokovic opened up about what he thinks of the current situation. He says that he has no regrets about the same but he hopes of entering the country for the US Open, which will be held in August this year. “I have no regrets,” Djokovic told CNN. “I’ve learned through life that regrets only hold you back and basically make you live in the past.
“I don’t want to do that. I also don’t want to live too much in the future. I want to be as much as in the present moment but of course, think about the future, create a better future.
“So congratulate Alcaraz. He absolutely deserves to come back to number one,” the three-time US Open champion added.
But the World No. 2 is hoping that the ban will be lifted which will allow him to enter the country for the US Open Grand Slam this year. On controversies, the 22-time Grand Slam winner says it didn’t lessen his enthusiasm for the sport and he is as motivated as ever for the sport, his family, his foundation, and all the projects he is doing off the court.
