In their first meeting, Pena pulled off a huge upset by defeating Nunes, but in the rematch, Nunes easily won by unanimous decision. Pena had several nasty cuts along her forehead during the second half of the fight, and blood covered her face.
Following UFC 277 Nunes vs Pena, UFC president Dana White said PeƱa was meeting with a plastic surgeon to repair the damage done due to a ābig chunk missing from her forehead,ā but it turned out she only needed some stitches to close the wounds.

Amanda Nunes
Prior to her title match against Julianna Pena at UFC 277, Amanda Nunes was adamant that she would reclaim her lost glory.
By becoming the first two-time double champion in UFC history, the Brazilian fulfilled her promise. After her fight, Nunes used social media to reiterate her position as the best female fighter in MMA history. “The Lioness” tweeted:
UFC 269: The Beginning
Last December’s UFC 269 featured Nunes’ initial matchup with Pena. By submitting “The Lioness” with a rear-naked choke in the second round, “The Venezuelan Vixen” pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.
With her most recent victory, the Brazilian improved to 13-1 in her previous 14 matches. ‘The Lioness’ was unbeaten since September 2014 before her defeat in December.

New Record for Nunes
In UFC 277 Nunes vs Pena, Nunes scored three knockdowns in Round 2 as Pena continued to charge in wildly while Nunes planted counter right hands on her chin. The three knockdowns set a record for most in a women’s fight in UFC history.
Nunes Made History
In UFC 277 Nunes vs Pena, Nunes also made history by becoming the second former champion after Deiveson Figueiredo to successfully defend his title in a subsequent contest. Julianna Pena was added to Nunes’ hit list, which already included Holly Holm, Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko (twice), and Miesha Tate and Germaine de Randamie. Pena dropped to 11-5 as a professional overall.
