BCCI decides to reintroduce the prestigious Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup in Domestic Calendar

BCCI announced the Domestic Calendar 2022-23 in the Apex Council Meeting.

The Board Of Control of Cricket (BCCI) in India will reintroduce the prestigious Duleep Trophy and Irani Cup. Last edition of Duleep Trophy was held in 2019 before pandemic. It will be played in the format of zonal system. Duleep Trophy will be held between Sepember 8 to September 28.

BCCI took this decision at the Apex Council Meeting in Mumbai on Thursday 21 July. A total of five knockout games will feature in the matches to be played among five zones of the BCCI.

Along with the prestigious Duleep Trophy, Irani Cup will also return to Indian Domestic Calendar. Irani Cup is basically a five-day match between Ranji Trophy Champions and Rest of India. Last two years match wasn’t held due to pandemic situation. But this year it will be held from October 1 to October 5. Whereas venue has yet to be decided. Defending Champions Madhya Pradesh will play against Rest of India. Madhya Pradesh defeated Mumbai by 6 wickets to win their 1st Ranji Title.

BCCI have finalised Ranji Trophy 2022-23 fixtures. Ranji Trophy will start from 23 December. The league stage will be played till 28 January. And the knockout stages will be played from 1 February to 28 February. The BCCI has kept three options for the first-class tournament and it will be spread over a period of over four months, 126 days to be precise.

Other Domestic Tournaments

The other domestic tournaments to be conducted this year are Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) – from October 11 to November 22, Vijay Hazare Trophy (One Day) – from November 12 to December 2, Men’s U25 One Day competition – from November 20 to December 10, Col CK Nayudu Trophy (multi-day) – from January 1 to March 23, Vinoo Mankad Trophy (one-day) – from October 7 to 23, Cooch Behar Trophy (multi-day) – from November 5 to January 3 and Vijay Merchant Trophy U16 (multi-day) – from December 1 to January 20.

The senior women’s T20 Trophy will be from October 11 to November 5, senior women’s Inter Zonal T20 – from November 8 to 15, senior women T20 Challenger Trophy – from November 20 to 26, senior women’s One-Day Trophy – from January 18 to February 7, senior women’s Inter Zonal One-Day – from February 12 to 21, women’s U23 T20 Trophy – from February 3 to 23, women’s U23 One-Day Trophy – from February 26 to March 18, women’s U19 T20 Trophy – from October 1 to 17, women’s U19 T20 Challenger Trophy – from November 1 to 7, women’s U19 One-Day Trophy – from December 7 to 23 and women’s U-16 One-Day Trophy – from December 26 to January 3.

International Fixtures against Australia and South Africa

South Africa and Australia will tour India for a white-ball series. BCCI also finalised the venues and dates in this meeting. Three T20Is against Australia will be played on 20, 23, and 25 at Mohali, Nagpur and Hyderabad respectively. South Africa will play 3-match T20I Series whereas 3-match ODI series as well. Three T20Is against South Africa will be played on 28 September at Thiruvananthapuram, 1 October at Guwahati and 3 October at Indore. Whereas 3-match ODI series will be played on 6 October at Ranchi, 9 October at Lucknow and 11 October at Delhi. The ODI series will be part of the ICC ODI Super League. This ODI Series was postponed in March 2020 due to Pandemic.

Asia Cup Moved to the UAE

The upcoming Asia Cup 2022 has been moved to UAE from Sri Lanka. The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly confirmed it after the Apex Council Meeting. Sourav Ganguly said, “Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won’t be rains.”
