Ajinkya Rahane set to miss remainder of IPL 2022 and England Tour due to hamstring injury

KKR suffers another blow after Cummins is already out of IPL 2022.

The veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane is set to miss the remaining matches of IPL and the upcoming tour of England where the Indian team is set to play a one-off Test match before the white-ball series.

Kolkata Knight Riders batter is set to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) bio-bubble after being ruled out of the remaining tournament due to a grade III hamstring injury which will leave him out of action for at least four weeks.

The 33-year-old batsman suffered the injury during Kolkata’s 54-run win vs Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune. Rahane will soon report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and require rehab which may need more than four weeks.

Huge blow for KKR

Rahane was having a bad run in the 2022 IPL so far and made just 133 runs in 7 matches at an average of 19.00. He was dropped from the playing XI after five matches. Rahane was brought back into the KKR playing XI after poor performances but his tournament has been cut short after the injury. The experienced batter’s chance of making a comeback in the Indian team has also taken a hit.

The two-time champions have just one match remaining in IPL 2022 against Lucknow Super Giants at DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday. The clash is a must-win game for KKR and a defeat will eliminate them from the tournament. On the other hand, a win will leave them dependent on other results to qualify.

Due to poor form, Ajinkya Rahane was not included in the Indian team for the Test series against Sri Lanka in March. Shreyas Iyer showed a great game in his place. Now India has to play a Test match against England in July. Due to the experience, Rahane could have staked a claim for a place in the team, but now he may be ruled out of this tour. The Indian team will leave for England around June 16.
