Fernando Alonso shares his mixed emotions about Aston Martin’s AMR24 Race Pace

Aston Martin’s start to the Formula One season has not been as promising as the previous one. Last season, they had consecutive podium finishes and were standing among the top three in the constructors’ championship. Sadly, this season, they are yet to have a top-three finish. Concluding at their start, Fernando Alonso shares his mixed emotions about Aston Martin’s AMR24 Race Pace.

Aston Martin racer Fernando Alonso, on their race pace, said:

“We are missing two or three-tenths to McLaren and Mercedes!”

Here is the complete statement:

(After the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix) “I think it was better than the Bahrain Grand Prix. We made a step forward by introducing a new part. But we still miss maybe two or three-tenths compared to McLaren and Mercedes, and we will keep chasing that performance.”

“It is challenging, but a nice challenge with an interesting season ahead.”

Aston Martin’s 2024 Season Performance

As mentioned, Aston Martin hasn’t had a good outing compared to last season. They had back-to-back podium finishes last season and were standing among the top three in the constructors.

But this season, they have only 13 points next to their name and are fifth in the Constructors Championship. Their performance in the Bahrain Grand Prix wasn’t that impressive. Fernando Alonso finished 9th, followed by Lance Stroll in 10th position.

Later in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Alonso finished 5th, and Stroll had a DNF.

But this isn’t the worrying part. As Alonso mentioned, their race pace is slower than McLaren’s and Mercedes’s. Moreover, we all know how good Red Bull and Ferrari have been this season.

Bahrain Grand Prix Performance

  • Qualifying Performance: P6 (Alonso) and P12 (Stroll)
  • Race Finish: P9 (Alonso) and P10 (Stroll)
  • Difference between winner: +74.887 seconds

Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Performance

  • Qualifying Performance: P4 (Alonso) and P10 (Stroll)
  • Race Finish: P5 (Alonso) and DNF (Stroll)
  • Difference between winner: +35.759 seconds

Undoubtedly, we can see their race pace hasn’t been impressive. They have dropped positions and finished significantly behind Max Verstappen.
