From 2014 to 2020 and nearly the 2021 season, we saw Mercedes win every championship of the season. They won all the constructors’ championships from 2014 to 2021. Whereas, from 2014 to 2020, Lewis Hamilton won six driver’s championships and Nico Rosberg won one driver’s championship.
But after the 2021 season, they have only won one Grand Prix, and Lewis Hamilton has been winless for two complete seasons. Most importantly, the team collectively has managed to secure only 24 podiums in two seasons, which they used to do in one season. Truly, this downfall has hurt Mercedes a lot, but their former driver, Nico Rosberg, has some belief that they will come stronger in the next season.
Former Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg said,
“I believe Mercedes and Hamilton could once again fight for the championship.”
Here is the full statement: “I believe in Mercedes’s ability because I was there. So certainly, there is a chance that Hamilton could once again fight for the championship next year.”
Well, Rosberg was a part of Mercedes for seven seasons (2010–2016). He has seen the rise of Mercedes when Red Bull was dominating from 2010 to 2013. Even during the 2016 season, he won the Formula 1 championship with Mercedes before taking his retirement.
In the past couple of seasons, they couldn’t lift any championships, and Toto Wolff will not remain quiet for a long time. Even Toto has said,
“He wants Hamilton to win the eighth title.”
Can Mercedes step up in the upcoming F1 season and challenge Red Bull for the title? Will they bring a better and faster car than other teams? For that, we must wait for the next season. Let’s hope we get a stronger car from Mercedes and some battles for the championship.
