Andy Murray and his 2024 campaign got off to a bad start when Sebastian Korda of the USA defeated him in the first round of the Adelaide International 1.

In precisely one hour and 56 minutes, Murray lost 6-7[3] 3-6, and Korda went on to the second round to play Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut.

Murray was broken by Korda in the seventh game of the first set. The three-time Grand Slam champion immediately broke back to put the match back on serve, but he largely struggled to hold off the American. A dreadful opening day for Andy Murray

In the 11th game, Murray saved two break points before being soundly defeated in the tie-breaker. Murray, who was frustrated, had only succeeded with 51% of his first serves in the first set.

Murray wasn’t the only British player to lose in the first round in Adelaide; Kyle Edmund also lost to Italian sixth seed Jannik Sinner, losing 3-6, 2-6. Jack Draper is the only British player still alive in the singles competition and he will play Karen Khachanov on Wednesday.
