Following a Friday altercation on the floor, the NBA has suspended Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs, Mo Bamba, and Austin Rivers of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
In response to their involvement in a brawl that resulted in the ejection of five players from Friday’s Magic-Timberwolves game at Minneapolis’ Target Center, NBA executive vice president Joe Dumars announced on Saturday that Bamba would receive a four-game suspension, Rivers a three-game suspension, and Suggs a one-game suspension.
The other two players who were dismissed from the game were Minnesotans, Jaden McDaniels and Taurean Prince. On Saturday, McDaniels received a $20,000 fine for his part in the event. Also Read: Joel Embiid scores 47 points as the Sixers defeat the Nuggets and Jokic 126-119.
Timberwolves Austin Rivers brawl against Magic’s Jalen Suggs and Mo Bamba
The fight broke out with 1:32 remaining in the third quarter, and the Magic were leading 83-73 at the time. Bamba, who wasn’t registered for the game and was sporting a warm-up shirt over his uniform, appeared to approach the Magic bench as Rivers approached to speak with him. The Orlando centre disagreed.
As the altercation spilled onto the court from the sidelines, Rivers and Bamba traded swings. Jalen Suggs of the Magic then threw Rivers to the ground. As staff members and fellow players attempted to separate Rivers and Bamba, they continued to grapple on the floor. NBA Statement on this altercation
The NBA stated in their statement defending the penalties that “Bamba and Rivers engaged in an argument in front of the Magic bench, with both players throwing punches.” “Suggs and McDaniels then entered the altercation as non-peacemakers, causing the situation to escalate further.
“After the altercation, Mo Bamba made an aggressive attempt to interact with Austin Rivers in the hallway outside the locker rooms, where he also shoved a security guard. Following the game, Bamba and Rivers both continued the escalation on social media”.
