Joel Embiid named 2022-23 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player for standout performance with 76ers

On Tuesday NBA announced Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid as the League’s Most Valuable Player award for the 2022-23 season.

Joel Embiid named 2022-23 Kia NBA MVP: NBA announced Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid as the League’s Most Valuable Player award for the 2022-23 season. Embiid has won this honor for the very first MVP trophy. Embiid won the trophy with 915 points.

Joel Embiid’s late comeback

In late December 2022, likes of Nikola Jokić, Jayson Tatum, Luka Dončić, Kevin Durant & Giannis Antetokounmpo were ahead of Joel Embiid in the MVP race. He finally won the race with 200 more points than Jokić, Antetokounmpo & tatum ending behind him. Embiid averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds & 4.2 assists per game. Embiid is only the second MVP trophy winner from Africa after Hakeem Olajuwon.

Joel Embiid was delighted & said, “It’s been a long time coming.” He further added, “A lot of hard work. I’ve been through a lot. I’m not just talking about the basketball. I am talking about my life. My story. Where I come from. How I got here & what it took for me to be here.”

How Joel Embiid fared for 76ers in 2022-23 season

Joel Embiid became the fastest 76er ever to reach 10,000 career points in NBA. The Cameroonian also set a franchise record with 10 straight 30-point games. The process recorded 50 plus points on three occasions in a single season. He joined Chamberlain & Iverson who are the only 76ers to achieve the same feat. He also recorded career-high 59 points with 11 rebounds, eight assists & seven blocks furthermore recording 44-games with at least 30 points, most by a 76er since the 2005-06 season.  

Joel Embiid also won three Eastern Conference Player of the Month awards & four Eastern Player of the week nods, moreover he also has a franchise record in his name with seven career player of the month awards.
