How common is a coach suspension?
In the NBA, coaching suspensions are incredibly uncommon. Mike Budenholzer and Jason Kidd each received one-game suspensions for actions that occurred during a game, and Washington Wizards assistant Mike Batiste received a two-game suspension from the league last season for entering the stands. It would be unprecedented for a coach to receive a lengthy suspension, especially one that is imposed by the team.

As the Celtics’ first-time head coach last year, Udoka oversaw a 23-24 start for the team but rallied his players to a fantastic 28-7 finish and a spot in the NBA Finals. Despite losing, the Celtics were expected to start this season as the betting favorite to win the title.

Danilo Gallinari, a free agent signing, tore his ACL while representing Italy’s National Team. The Celtics’ coach might now be absent for a sizable chunk of the season. If he is ultimately suspended, Boston’s chances of returning to the Finals become even more bleak.
