The 2024 F1 season is a few weeks away, but the drama has already begun. First, there was the Wolff family investigation, then the Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari moves, and as the season goes on, there will be multiple contract dramas. Almost half of the grid will be out of contract, and the Spanish racing driver Fernando Alonso is one of them.
Alonso is currently serving for the Aston Martin F1 Team, and his contract with them will expire by the end of the season. There are multiple options for the driver, but Mercedes or Red Bull might be his top priority.
Fernando Alonso said:
“There are only three world champions on the grid, and only one available in 2025.”
Apart from Alonso, the two world champions on the grid are Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. As per sources, Hamilton has a multi-year contract with Ferrari with an additional year option. On the other hand, Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull is until 2028.

Will Fernando Alonso get a seat in Mercedes or Red Bull?
As a result, Alonso is the only driver world champion on the grid who doesn’t have a confirmed seat on an F1 team. Looking at the current scenario, McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull are the championship contenders on the grid.
Both McLaren and Ferrari have their drivers confirmed until 2026. On the other hand, Red Bull and Mercedes have a seat open for a driver. Alonso is a two-time world champion and the most experienced driver on the grid. He has a chance to be in the seat of a Mercedes or a Red Bull.
But it won’t be easy. Carlos Sainz is a great option for Mercedes. Similarly, if Sergio Perez performs impressively in the current season, he will seal his place again in the Red Bull.
