The 2024 season was a complete roller coaster ride for the McLaren F1 team. From the bottom of the table to finishing fourth in the constructors ranking, they came a long way. The start for McLaren was as disappointing as their last 10 seasons. They were among the bottom teams in the constructors’ championship and were looking to have yet another failed campaign. If you remember, McLaren is a team that has a rich background when it comes to championships. But in the past couple of decades, they have failed to lift the championship and have even found it difficult to win races.
Coming back to the 2024 season, the team was struggling to finish in the top 10. In eight grand prix, they had only five top-10 finishes and no top-5 finishes.
But things changed rapidly after the summer break. During the 2024 Austrian Grand Prix, Lando Norris finished in 4th place and challenged all the top 3 drivers. Suddenly, in the next three races, they had five top-five finishes, with consecutive podiums for Lando Norris.
On the other hand, Oscar Piastri was looking promising, and finally, at the Japanese Grand Prix, he got his first podium finish. Moreover, in the same race, Norris also finished on the podium, and it was a double podium finish for McLaren in ages.
Following the 2024 Qatar Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri did the unimaginable by winning the sprint race. Similarly, in the race, they shared yet another double podium of the season, and McLaren surpassed Aston Martin in the constructors ranking.
