Southampton is close to reaching an agreement with Jesse Marsch to name the American as their new manager.

After dismissing Nathan Jones on Sunday, Southampton is close to reaching an agreement with Jesse Marsch to name the American as their new manager. Marsch, who was fired by Leeds less than a week ago, has emerged as Southampton’s top choice and already appears set for a quick return to Premier League management.

The Saints are said to be interested in Marsch after he impressed them during talks last week. The 49-year-old, who gained notoriety in Europe by switching from New York Red Bulls to Red Bull Salzburg, where he coached a certain Erling Haaland, is especially eager to remain in England.

By the time Southampton travels to London to play Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, Southampton is confident that they will have a new manager in place. Read More: PSG hopes Kylian Mbappe to return before Bayern Clash

Will Jesse Marsch be impactful at Southampton?

Following a weekend loss to the Wolves at home, Jones was let go by St. Mary’s. The Saints’ miserable recent form, which included nine losses in their last 10 Premier League games, continued with that result, pushing them to the bottom of the standings.

When Marsch took over for the well-liked Marcelo Bielsa less than a year ago, he initially kept Leeds in the Premier League. However, the team decided to act earlier this month after going seven games without a victory and having just two victories in their previous 17 games going back to August.
