Man City strolled to a 3-1 victory at Leeds United on Wednesday, closing the distance to Premier League leader Arsenal to five points as Erling Haaland continued his fantastic season ahead of goal with a brace.
Man City defeats Leeds United with a double from Erling Haaland
At Elland Road, City struggled against a focused and determined home team. Their own carelessness for the whole of the first half. However, City took the lead shortly before the break through Rodri’s follow-up finish. And then surged away in a lopsided second half.
Haaland, who was playing in his hometown against the team he supports, did not celebrate his goals. But showed little mercy in securing them to raise his amazing tally in just his 14th game of the season.
Having been put up in front of an open goal by the selfless Jack Grealish. Who himself had missed a hat-trick of splendid opportunities in the opening 45 minutes. He was unable to miss his first attempt.
Grealish again set up Haaland for his second goal. Which he scored from close range after a deflection to leave Leeds with an impossible deficit to overturn.
In keeping with their performance, the home team didn’t give up. They responded with a goal via Pascal Struijk’s header from a corner.
And if Joe Gelhardt’s poked finish hadn’t trickled to the wrong side of the post, they might have been able to stage a spectacular finish.
Leeds remains in 15th place, two points clear of the relegation zone, while second-placed Man City moved back within five points of Arsenal at the top of the standings thanks to the victory.
