Following the departure of three board members, Carlo Ancelotti is suing Everton amidst financial crisis.

Ancelotti's move appears to be the latest blow to Everton, who have endured a series of financial struggles in recent years.

Real Madrid manager and former Everton boss has begun the process of suing Everton in London’s high court.

The Italian manager’s legal workers has filed his claim against his former employers late on Friday and it relates to ‘general commercial contracts and arrangements’, and will be heard in the commercial court.

Ancelotti signed a four-and-a-half-year contract when he was hired by Everton in December 2019. The Italian was in charge for an 18-month spell, before leaving Merseyside to re-join Real Madrid in June 2021.

Last month Everton secured their Premier League status with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth and avoided the drop on the last day. Ancelotti’s move appears to be the latest blow to Everton, who have endured a series of financial struggles in recent years including a three-year effort to raise funds to complete the building of their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

They remain in a difficult financial situation with a number of players expected to leave while owner Farhad Moshiri who owns 94% of the club continues to look for investment to help finance the building of a new stadium.

Adding to the ruckus, Everton announced the departure of three of its board members, namely CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale, CFO and CSO Grant Ingles and Non-Executive Director Graeme Sharp.

In a statement released on their website on Monday, the club said: “Everton Football Club today announces its Chief Executive Officer, Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Chief Finance and Strategy Officer Grant Ingles and Non-Executive Director Graeme Sharp have left their roles. “The outgoing directors have worked tirelessly over recent months to assist with the preparation for a transition to a new board.

“The club is very appreciative of this generous accommodation, which is both characteristic of them, and entirely in the spirit of the best values of our club.”

The club also revealed a statement will be made about interim appointments and the future of chairman Bill Kenwright will be made soon.

Kenwright said: “This has been a great board who have all worked tirelessly for the club, no matter what the circumstances.

“My relationship with Denise has been known as one of the closest in football. I thank her for her many achievements, particularly her magnificent work in respect of our new stadium.”
