David Crosby Bio
Crosby was born on August 14, 1941, to Academy Award-winning cinematographer father Floyd Crosby and was brought up in Southern California.
The Los Angeles native was part of the Byrds whose two songs- Mr. Tambourine Man (written by Bob Dylan) and Pete Seeger’s Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There Is a Season)- topped the Billboard Hot 100.
Although he preferred harmony in his songs, he was hugely opinionated, often got involved in altercations, and some musicians liked to keep a distance from him. Notwithstanding that, he has inspired generations of musicians and singers, especially during the ‘60s and ‘70s. He released six solo albums.
“Crosby was a colorful and unpredictable character, wore a Mandrake and Magician cape, didn’t get along with too many people and had a beautiful voice- an architect of harmony,” Bob Dylan wrote in his 2004 memoir, “Chronicles: Volume One.”
However, a sour relationship with bandmate Roger McGuinn led to his separation from Byrds. Crosby then joined Stills and Nash which then formed Crosby, Stills & Nash. They won the Grammy for a best new artist in 1969, making Crosby one of two artists nominated for the Grammy twice for the best new artist. He was part of the Byrds when he was nominated at first. He was inducted twice into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. His famous songs include The House, Long Time Gone, Eight Miles High, Wooden Ships, Almost Cut My Hair, The Lee Shore, etc.
When Neil Young joined the band, the name got changed to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSNY). Neil Young left the band later, and later, Nash’s 2013 memoir “Wild Tales” made Crosby furious, which meant the band was finished. Also Read: Who Is Henry Cavill Girlfriend? Know All About Natalie Viscuso
