Erling Haaland sweeps the Premier League individual awards, the young Norwegian was named Premier League player of the season and young player of the season. Haaland becomes the first in history to win both accolades.
The young prodigy earned the coveted player of the season accolade through a combined voting process involving the general public, the captains of all 20 Premier League teams and a panel of experts. Also read:Manchester City wins the Premier League for third successive season.
This was fourth successive season that a City player has won the accolade ( Kevin De Bruyne in 2019-20 and 2021-22 and Ruben Dias in 2020-21). In winning the young player of the season Haaland makes it a third successive season in which a Manchester City player has won it, Phil Foden was the winner in previous two seasons.
This came after a sublime debut season, the 22 year old Norway international has achieved a remarkable feat by scoring an astounding 36 goals, surpassing the long-standing record of 34 goals in a single Premier League season, previously held jointly by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer for nearly three decades.
“I am honoured to have become the first player to win both awards in the same season – thank you to everyone who voted for me,” Haaland told Man City’s official website. “It has been an incredible first season in the Premier League and lifting the Trophy last weekend in front of our fans at the Etihad was a very special moment for me.“These awards would not have been possible without my amazing team-mates, the manager and all of the staff at the club who help me perform on the pitch.
