The Premier League has alleged financial violations against Manchester City

After being accused of more than 100 financial rule violations on Monday, Manchester City may lose points or even be kicked out of the PL.

After being accused of more than 100 financial rule violations on Monday, Manchester City may lose points or even be kicked out of the Premier League. The Premier League has referred them to an impartial commission.

The alleged rule violations occurred between 2009 and 2018, the first nine seasons the club was fully owned by Abu Dhabi. They’re accused to have breached league rules requiring provision “in utmost good faith” of “accurate financial information that gives a true and fair view of the club’s financial position”.

In response, Manchester City said it was “surprised” by the accusations and “welcomed” an impartial investigation to “put the matter to rest once and for all.”

What did the Premier League say?

The accurate financial information needed, according to the Premier League, was related to “revenue (including sponsorship revenue), its related parties, and its operating costs.”

The second set of alleged infractions relates to the seasons 2009/10 to 2012/13 inclusive and allegedly involves rules “requiring a member club to include full details of manager remuneration in its relevant contracts with its manager.” The manager of Manchester City at the time was Roberto Mancini, the current manager of Italy.

The Premier League’s regulations requiring clubs to adhere to UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations are the subject of the third section’s allegations, while the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations are the subject of the fourth section’s allegations.

Manchester City cooperated with PL

Finally, the club is accused of breaking league rules requiring that, starting in December 2018, member clubs assist and cooperate with the Premier League in its investigations.

The commission would be “independent of the Premier League and member clubs,” according to the Premier League’s statement.

It added that there would be no further comment “until further notice” and stated that the proceedings before the commission “will be confidential and heard in private.”

If alleged violations of league rules are found to be true, commissions may impose sanctions under Premier League rule W.51.

These can include a warning, a point deduction, or even a suggestion to the league to kick a team out of the league. Read More: Cristiano Ronaldo Cars Collection: Have an inside look at CR7’s Luxurious Cars

The commission has the authority to condition such sanctions on specific actions being taken within a specific time frame, and respondents are entitled to appeal.

Man City put forward a statement related to the situation

Manchester City’s statement in reply said: “Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.”

“The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.”

“As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”

Man City has won six Premier League championships since being acquired by Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, including the most recent one. They haven’t, however, yet claimed the UEFA Champions League.

Man City was given a two-year suspension from UEFA competitions in February 2020 due to “serious financial fair-play breaches,” but the sanction was quashed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in July of that same year.

City reported record club revenues of £613 million ($737 million) and a profit of £41.7 million for the 2021/22 season. City was named club of the year at the 2022 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
