Due to concerns about his fitness, India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been forced to postpone his return to international competition. The Mumbai Indians pacer, who was included in the ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, will not play because he needs more time to fully recover from a back injury that has kept him out of action since September last year.
Bumrah who was scheduled to travel with the ODI team to Guwahati will miss the three-match series in order to give his back more time to heal, the BCCI said he “will need some more time to build bowling resilience.”
Precautions have been taken in making this choice. Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement has not been named by the All-India Senior Selection Committee, it continued. Days after the initial series squad was revealed, Bumrah was included in the ODI squad on January 3. On January 10, 12, and 15, India will play Sri Lanka in three one-day internationals in Guwahati, Kolkata, and Thiruvananthapuram. Read More: 2024 Asia Cup Groups Announced, India to face Pakistan

Since a three-match series against Australia in September 2022, Bumrah hasn’t appeared for India. He missed the Asia Cup last year due to an injury, but he made a comeback to play against Australia before the T20 World Cup. But his back problem returned, and he was also disqualified from the T20 World Cup.
Bumrah did not travel with India on their tours of New Zealand and Bangladesh, and it was said that the selectors were hesitant to bring him back quickly for the series against Sri Lanka in the new year. Bumrah was not included in either the T20I or ODI teams when the squads were revealed on December 27.
