Emma Raducanu aims to play more tennis and avoid injuries by 2024

Emma Raducanu has set two major goals for herself in 2024 which are to avoid injuries and play fearless tennis.

Emma Raducanu has set two major goals for 2024 to avoid injuries and play fearless tennis. Due to a wrist injury, the former US Open champion has not participated in a competitive match since early October. Now healthy and prepared to play, she will make her season debut on Tuesday in Auckland against teen Linda Fruhvirtova.

The wrist issue was the most recent in a string of injuries that prevented Raducanu from playing her first full season on the tour last year. It sidelined her for two months. She was able to start her preseason training early and concentrate solely on the physical work that was lacking after her struggles the previous year.

Emma Raducanu is currently training with Andy Murray’s former trainer Jez Green

Jez Green, who was Andy Murray‘s previous physical trainer, has been working with Raducanu, according to what she told wtatennis.com: “Jez is really good, he’s obviously so experienced, he’s worked with some of the top players, he’s been there through the journey with a lot of players who were young and then developed into the top, top pros.

“It’s amazing to have him in my corner and helping me out. We’ve just been focusing on strength, cardio and just improving all round.”

Raducanu aims to be injury free in 2024

Before continuing her training in Singapore and travelling to New Zealand, Raducanu demonstrated encouraging signs in a close loss to world No. 2 Ons Jabeur in an exhibition last month in Abu Dhabi.

In addition to attending the World Cup final and receiving an MBE from the King, Raducanu, who is currently ranked 78 but has few points to defend, is hoping 2024 will be the year she establishes a solid foundation and starts to rise back to the top of the game. After short-lived stints with Torben Beltz and Dmitry Tursunov, Raducanu is testing out another new coach in German Sebastian Sachs.

Regarding her work during the off-season, she stated: “I think right now because I’m still trying to find my timing and groove and my tennis, it’s a bit early to tell. But once I settle into that I think the physical side will definitely have made a difference because there’s no way it can’t have.

“But I’m also not ignorant in thinking two months is going to solve my entire physical condition, it’s going to take more time, over a year or two to redevelop.”

She further added: “For 2024 my goal is to stay healthy for longer. I’m looking forward to working hard because I’ve got a better idea of what to expect now. So I’ll be less like a deer in the headlights.

“For a result goal I’d say it’s to win a title, and three I’d say is to be playing fearless tennis. Just not thinking about consequences. Just going for it.”
