ESPN expert backs Anthony Davis at the top of the Defensive Player of the Year

As we have entered the second half of the 2023-24 NBA season, the race for awards has begun. Similarly, the race for the Defensive Player of the Year award is on. Rudy Gobert, OG Anunoby, and Chet Holmgren are a few players who are favorites to win. But Kendrick Perkins believes Anthony Davis is at the top.

ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins said:

“Right now, Anthony Davis should be at the top of Defensive Player of the Year.”

He also mentioned:

“Anthony Davis is the one who will lead the Lakers into the playoffs. He can take them wherever they need to go.”

Can Anthony Davis win the Defensive Player of the Year Award?

Davis is averaging 24.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.4 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game throughout the season. He has the third-best rebounds in the season and has contributed the most to the team.

Looking at the league, Robert Gobert, Chet Holmgren, and OG Anunoby have better chances than Davis to win the Defensive Player of the Year award. If Davis keeps performing consistently, he will stand a higher chance.

Currently, Davis needs to improve his performance to win the Defensive Player of the Year award.
