Iga Swiatek crushes Pegula to win back-to-back Qatar title

Swiatek took just 69 minutes to emerge victorious, winning her first title in 2023.

World No.1 Iga Swiatek won her second back-to-back Qatar Open title on Saturday (February 18) by crushing World No.4 Jessica Pegula 6-3,6-0 in the final. Swiatek took just 69 minutes to emerge victorious, winning her first title in 2023.

I’m really happy that I could kind of find more balance comparing to how I felt at the beginning of the season,” Swiatek said after winning. “I think this tournament is going to give me lots of confidence, but still, I want to take everything step by step. I’m just really happy that I could win this match today.” Also Read: “It’s Unbelievable,” Bjorn Borg On Rafael Nadal’s Training Routine

It’s worth noting that apart from it being her first title last year, it also started her 37-match winning streak, which included her Grand Slam title at the French Open.

Interestingly, the Pole lost to Pegula this year at the United Cup but perfectly avenged that defeat in the Doha final. Swiatek now leads 5-2 in the head-to-head against Pegula.

After her victory, Iga Swiatek set a new record for the lowest number of games dropped en route to winning a WTA title. She lost a total of five games. Also Read: Carlos Alcaraz Registers 1st Win At Argentina Open After Injury
