World number 3, Alexander Zverev was against World number 5 Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the French Open 2022 when an unfortunate incident occurred. While Zverev was trailing 6-7 6-5(30-40) he twisted his ankle during a point which brought his match to an end.
After the match the fans applauded Zverev and Zverev thanked the fans for their support. However, one thing which left all the people in awe was Nadal’s gesture toward an injured Zverev.
Nadal was the first one to approach Zverev after he twisted his leg. After Zverev returned to the court, Nadal hugged him. Nadal then walked with Zverev, and also acknowledged him as a great player in his post-match speech.
This sportsmanship caught the eye of Cricket’s great Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar appreciated Nadal’s gesture in a tweet which read “The humility and concern shown by Nadal is what makes him so special.” Sachin’s tweet was received well by the netizens.
