The Charlotte Hornets defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 138-109 on Friday night thanks to a season-high 39 points from Terry Rozier and 51 points overall, matching an NBA record. Golden State’s 51-point quarter versus Denver in 2019 still stands as the NBA record for a first quarter. The number of points scored at any time was also a club record. The Hornets, who had a 45-17 advantage at the end of the first quarter, made 20 of 29 shots (69%), including 7 of 14 from beyond the arc.
The Buffalo Braves, who put up a 58-point fourth quarter against the Boston Celtics in 1972, hold the record for the most points ever scored in any period.
Charlotte nevertheless concluded the first half with 84 points, another franchise high, despite the Bucks outscoring the Hornets 33-32 in the second quarter. Terry Rozier, a guard for the Hornets, had 25 points overall at the half, followed by teammate LaMelo Ball, who scored 19 points in just six minutes on the court. Triumph that set a record for the Charlotte Hornets
