Over the past couple of years, Magomed Ankalaev has been one of the competitors for the UFC light heavyweight championship. The Russian fighter was inches closer to winning the championship at UFC 282 but fell short as the fight ended in a draw. Since then, he has been around the championship fight and is now likely to get an opportunity.
Ankalaev was asked about fighting Alex Pereira for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championships; here is what he answered:
“Alex Pereira is not going to need to wrestle. I am going to come out there; I am going to stand across from him.”
Pereira defeated Jiri Prochazka to win the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Pereira’s last couple of fights in the UFC have been championship-related and have finished everybody. The only fighter he wants to fight is Israel Adesanya, but he is on a break. As of now, he is looking for a challenger, and Ankalaev is the perfect option.
Magomed Ankalaev is on a 10-straight, unbeaten streak. He recently defeated Jonny Walker and has advanced his name for the title race. As per the above statement, he would love to fight against Pereira for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
Both fighters are in great form, and we might see them on the same match card. UFC 299 or 300 would be a perfect event for the fight. Which event will host the Pereira vs. Ankalaev fight for the UFC light heavyweight title?
