Dustin Poirier opens up about his MMA career, which is inching closer to the end

A young American mixed martial artist made his UFC debut in UFC 125 after competing in various events. He was roped in as a future star, but he proved everyone wrong as he fought four fights in a year. Moreover, he won all four and marked his arrival in the ring. Now, he is one of the most renowned mixed martial artists and has defeated names like McGregor, Holloway, Gaethje, and more. We are talking about the ‘killer’ Dustin Poirier.

But the killer is getting old, and he opens up about his MMA career, which is inching closer to the end.

Dustin Poirier said:

“I know my MMA career is coming to an end. I can’t do this forever.”

Here is the complete statement:

“I know my MMA career is coming to an end. I can’t do this forever. I have a family to be there for. Every time I get into the octagon, a piece of me is going to leave that I can never get back.”

Is Dustin Poirier inching closer to retirement?

Dustin Poirier has dreamed of being a UFC champion and has given his best. He has a record of 21-7-1 in the UFC ring and has defeated big names like Eddie Alvarez, Max Holloway, Justin Gaethje, Conor McGregor, Michael Chandler, and many others.

But when it came down to the championship fights, he lost both. One was against Khabib Nurmagomedov, and the other was against Charles Oliveira. Sadly, he lost both fights in the third round and is yet to get his hand on the title. He also lost his last fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 291.

Now he will be co-maineventing UFC 299 against Benoit Saint-Denis. This fight could be important for him as he is the No. 3 ranked UFC lightweight fighter. If he wins, his name could be placed ahead of a final championship fight.

Poirier is 35 years old and has the potential to fight at least a couple of fights. Everything might depend on his fight against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299. If he wins, we will see him more. But if he loses, that might be his last fight in the ring.
