The UFC Lightweight Championship has some great fights lined up for the 2024 season

On October 22, 2022, at UFC 280, Islam Makhachev defeated Charles Oliveira to win the vacant UFC Lightweight Championship. Since then, the title has been on the line two times, both against Alexander Volkanovski. On the other hand, Charles Oliveira had an opportunity to win the title in a rematch but missed out due to an injury.

While all of this was happening, other lightweight division fighters were eagerly waiting for their title opportunity. Recently, Justin Gaethje tweeted that he is waiting for the championship opportunity call and doesn’t want to waste it like others (Oliveira).

Here is what Justin Gaethje tweeted:

Before that, Islam Makhachev open-challenged all the top 5 fighters in the lightweight division. The UFC Lightweight Champion tweeted:

With all this drama and social media battles, we can expect great fights lined up for the UFC Lightweight Championship. If everything goes well, UFC 299 might host the Makhachev vs. Gaethje fight for the UFC Lightweight Championship.

Makhachev had also mentioned earlier that he would love to have at least three fights in the 2024 season. After Gaethje, Charles Oliveira might be the next fighter lined up, or maybe Arman Tsarukyan. Be ready, because the lightweight championship has a bunch of species on the table.
