Since 2015, the UFC has seen the rise of a young fighter from Russia. Here we are not talking about Khabib Nurmagomedov but one of his students, Islam Makhachev. Just like his trainer, he also became the UFC lightweight champion and has remained undefeated for 13 fights. He became the champion in October 2022 and has defended his title in two fights. Surprisingly, both fights came against the UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski.
Well, Makhachev is all geared up for the 2024 season and wants to have a busy schedule. Recently, he said something in an interview that has brought the eyes of every lightweight fighter towards him.
Islam Makhachev said,
“I would like to have three fights in 2024! I will wait for the call from bosses.”
Here is the full statement: “I let the UFC know I was ready to fight before Ramadan. I would like to have three fights in 2024. I will be training, keeping myself in shape, and waiting for the call from the bosses.”
This clearly means that Makhachev wants to have a busy schedule in 2024. One of his opponents is definitely going to be Charles Oliveira. The other fighters that he might face could be Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, and Conor McGregor.
