Pablo Mari has resumed training with his loan club Monza, just months after being stabbed in a supermarket attack in Milan. In October, the Spaniard was taken to hospital after being one of six people stabbed in the Italian capital’s shopping centre. Mari was told he was ‘lucky’ to avoid life-threatening injuries during surgery after one person died in the attack.
Mari underwent surgery to repair two injured muscles in his back, putting him out of commission for two months.
What was the incident he was involved in?
The attacker had used a kitchen knife purchased at a supermarket in Assago. A 47-year-old Bolivian national working at a shopping mall supermarket died, while another employee and four customers were injured including the defender. As per Italian police, a 46-year-old man with mental health issues was detained following the attack at a Carrefour supermarket and was being held in a psychiatric ward under guard.

Pablo Mari is back after 2 Months
He is now preparing for a comeback after being spotted in a Monza training session, with the player claiming he is taking things ‘step by step’ after getting back out with a ball at his feet. Mari had joined Monza on a season-long loan in August and had made eight appearances, scoring one goal.
The centre-back joined Arsenal from Flamengo in 2020 but has yet to establish himself as a regular in Mikel Arteta’s lineup. He appeared three times in his rookie season of 2019-20, then 16 times the following season of 2020-21.Â

But in 2021-22, he went on loan to Udinese, where he played 15 times, and clearly didn’t do enough to win Arteta’s approval, as he was shipped back to Italy with Monza.
