Ex-Pakistani speedster Mohammad Sami regularly clogged one of the fastest speeds during his heydays. Along with the Rawalpindi Express, Shoaib Akthar, the two formed a deadly duo. Noted to be one of the quickest bowlers in the world, the Karachi born pacer was a menace to batsmen. Nicknamed ‘Malcolm Marshall’ by former skipper Imran Khan, Sami was one of the most dangerous pacers during his early years.
In a recent interview with paktv.tv, Sami has claimed to have bowled two deliveries above the 160 kmph radar. The bowler claims to have bowled one delivery at 162 clicks and another at 164.
Here’s what Sami said:
“I bowled two balls more than 160kmph in a match, one was 162 and the other was 164. After that, it was said that the bowling machine (speed gun) is not working. So, the balls were not counted. But if you look overall, whoever has bowled with a speed of more than 160, there have been just one or two balls in that speed,”

Sami further stated that only a few balls have been bowled over 160kmph and you can’t bowl at that pace consistently.
“It is not like they have bowled with that speed consistently. It happened occasionally,” he further added
According to ESPNcricinfo, the record for the fastest ball bowled is held by Shoaib Akhtar. He achieved this feat against New Zealand in 2002 with a speed of 161.8 kmph.
Sami created a world record during his first match when he took 8 wickets in the game including a fifer. He further went on to take a hat-trick two games later and topped that by taking another the following year. However, Sami’s golden run came to an end after 2004 and the pacer wasn’t the same ever since.
Mohammad Sami went on to represent Pakistan in 136 international games, taking 227 wickets in the process. His last international match came against Australia in the 2016 T20 World Cup.
