Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has made a huge revelation about former Pakistani Speedster Shoaib Akhtar. He revealed that Pakistan’s express pacer Shoaib Akhtar used to ‘chuck’, adding that the much-feared bowler knew “he used to jerk his elbow”.
Virender Sehwag and Shoaib Akhtar are known to be popular frenemies and both are very vocal in expressing their thoughts. Sehwag was one batsman who used to strike fear in the minds of even the best of bowlers due to his aggressive batting approach. On the other hand, an unorthodox bowling action and sheer pace from Shoaib were enough to make even the batter nervous while facing him.
Sehwag added that it was tough to pick the Pakistani pacer because of his action and it was easy for him to pick Brett Lee as his hand used to come straight while delivering the ball.
“Shoaib knows he used to jerk his elbow; he knew he was chucking too. Why would the Governing body of international cricket ban him otherwise? Brett Lee’s hand came down straight, so it was easy to pick the ball. But with Shoaib, you could never guess where the hand and the ball will come from.”
Sehwag said to Sports18.
Bond’s deliveries would come swinging into your body, even if he bowled outside the off stump: Virender Sehwag
Sehwag also added that he found it difficult to face the balls of former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond. “His (Bond’s) deliveries would come swinging into your body, even if he bowled outside the off stump.
He also stated that he had not feared the pace of Lee or Akhtar and called the Pakistani pacer his ‘boundary bowler’.
“I never feared facing Brett Lee, but with Shoaib, I could not trust what he would do if I hit him twice to the fence. Maybe a beamer or a toe-crushing yorker,”
Sehwag said to Sports18.
Sehwag and Akhtar had quite faceoffs, especially when India toured Pakistan in 2004 in a historic series where India won the Tests 2-1 and ODIs 3-2. Sehwag became the first Indian batsman to hit a triple century during the Rawalpindi Test match as he smashed Shoaib Akhtar and other Pakistani bowlers to all parts of the ground.
