Last night, Barcelona kicked off their UEFA Champions League first game with a 5-0 victory against Antwerp. The team, along with players like Joao Felix, Robert Lewandowski, and Frenkie de Jong, showed their aggressive intent from the moment they got the football. As a result, they produced one of the best results of UEFA Champions League Matchday 1.
One thing happened last night when Barcelona’s coach Xavi was asked about his thoughts on a contract extension for Frenkie de Jong. He said,
“Of course, I’d extend his contract with my eyes closed – we have to do it.”
He also concluded that he is a key player for Barcelona and is in the best moment of his career.
In return, the same question was asked of de Jong: whether he wanted to stay with the club or not. And he replied,
“My agent takes care of my deal, but I’m happy in Barcelona.”

De Jong current contract with Barcelona
His contract with the club will expire in 2026. As per sources, he has an annual income of around €18 million, excluding his loyalty bonus with the club. He has been a part of the club for more than three seasons and is loving his stay here.
